Claire and Steven met two years ago on Bumble, and both thought it would be a good idea to buy their own boba tea ($3.75) on the first date. After a couple amazing dates, they decided to switch off buying instead of splitting. A mere 15 months later they were signing a legal document (lease) moving all their stuff in and splitting rent! So life comes at ya fast.

Being a couple has been an incredible experience. Life looks differently than both pictured in the past and better than either hoped. Steven’s plant based lifestyle has introduced new vegetables and dishes to Claire (fast no to beets, slow yes to mushrooms) while Claire’s Irish roots have brought Steven to the deliciousness of Kerrygold butter. Claire was able to introduce Steven to mutual aid at Water Drop Los Angeles and Steven found an inclusive, affirming, and progressive church for them to go to together. Both have learned to lean into the growth that is possible in relationships, where someone else is able to hold up a mirror to your past, your present, and your heart.

One of the things Claire loves about Steven is his excitement to host friends for dinner, games, and nights in. She loves watching him play indoor and outdoor volleyball and enjoys bringing him to play volleyball at casual games with her friends who quickly learn he’s quite good! After Steven served one too many sheet pan vegetable dinners (just potatoes and beets for dinner!) Claire encouraged him to start using recipes. Since then, Steven has added and cooked great vegan dishes to their weekly schedule from Minimalist Baker, Love & Lemons, and NoraCooks.

Some activities they’ve enjoyed over the years include yoga, pickleball, games, video games including It Takes Two (highly recommend), and Mario Wonder.
